Chiropractic and Sports

Chiropractors are experts in restoring biomechanic balance to the body. Most or all chiropractors, professional and amateur athletes would agree that high intensity physical competition requires that your body has to be in total balance. The slightest off balance could mean the difference between victory and defeat. When your joint or joints are out of alignment, it can cause your body to be off balance, which often result in your nerve flow being blocked. Chiropractors call this nerve interference caused by misalignment of the spine or extremities (arms and legs), a SUBLUXATION. Consider this, in order for the muscles and joints to move, the muscles and joints have to have nerve energy going from the nervous system to the muscles and joints. The more nerve energy going into muscles, the higher muscles percentage (more muscle fibers being use) athletes will be able to use. More muscle fibers being use, means more strength, power, speed, stamina, and etc. to the athletes (depending on the sports of course). When an athletes body is SUBLUXATED, his/her athletic performance are not at their fullest potential due to nerve energy flow being blocked. The nerve energy that is blocked could be a lot or the slightest amount of energy. But if you ask most competitive athletes, they will let you know having even just the slightest advantage matters. Many times that is the difference between winning and losing. An athlete's body is his/her instrument in all sporting competitions. It is this high maintenance instrument that all athletes are responsible to care for. When the body is more balance and has less nerve interference, athletic peak performance can be achieved with less chance of having injuries. Injuries that could result in defeat or even worse scenario. Progressive coaches, athletes, and doctors are realizing that pain killing drugs are not the answer. They merely cover up the symptoms, deceiving the athlete into actions. This could cause the injury to be more severe.

What can be treated with Chiropractic Care?

The primary treatment of the Doctor of Chiropractic is to adjust(manipulation) areas of the spine and/or extremities. Given by hand (the word chiropractic means 'done by hand'), the adjustment will restore proper alignment and function to the spinal joints and/or extremities, thus restoring the normal nerve transmission and healing potential to the vital cells, tissues, and organs of the body. Therapeutic exercise and nutritional support are part of patient care when it is appropriate. Injuries like sprains (ankle), strains (eg. pulled muscles), tendinitis (eg. tennis elbow), bursitis in the shoulder, and joint misalignment in the shoulder, elbow, wrist, hand, hip, knee, ankle, and foot can all be treated effectively with chiropractic care. These are all good reasons to seek chiropractic care.

However, the beauty of Chiropractic is not only drug-free and surgery free care, but also preventative and performance enhancing care. Maintaining proper alignment will allow athletes to be prepared for their sport.

Many of the greatest athletes in the world are adjusted before competition as a "tune-up" in an effort to place their bodies in a state of balance and peak efficiency. Following competition, they are adjusted to enhance the recuperative process after the stress of their particular sporting event.
